Looking for Endometriosis Association (Singapore)? EASe is at: http://go.to/endometriosis-singapore
I was born in Northern Ireland in 1959, met my husband in Belfast in 1977 and two kids later we left to live in Malaysia then Australia and finally moved to Singapore in 1990. I now split my time between homes in Singapore and Belfast.
I used to work for other people as a freelance writer and editor but now I'm a full-time mum and part-time writer.
I run the website for the Endometriosis Association (Singapore). I'm also their newsletter editor, which means I research and write the magazine, re-write and edit submissions, do the design and layout on PageMaker and do all the legal stuff with the Ministry of Information and the Arts.
On March 18, 2002, the day after St Patrick's Day, I presented a public lecture at the Singapore History Museum on the topic of 150 Years of Irish Teaching Missionaries in Singapore. I am working on re-writing extracts from the talk for publication. I am also working on a series of special-interest guidebooks to Singapore and a new collection of short stories.
My work has appeared in a number of magazines including The BEAM Motherhood, Juniors, The Singapore Visitor, Lifestyle! Home and Design, The Straits Times, Northern Ireland Travel News and others.
I keep in touch with the rest of the publishing world through the web, email and membership of the following organisations:
My frivolous ambition was to be upgraded to Club Class which lovely Malaysian Airlines have now done on two occasions, so thanks to them and also for their extra leg room in economy class flights from London to Kuala Lumpur. My first choice every time.
One serious ambition is to publish the trilogy "China Dreams". A short story taken from the middle book, which I titled "Singapore 1950", was a Highly Commended Asia-Pacific Winner of the 1999 Commonwealth Short Story Competition.
My other ambitions revolve around awareness raising for Endometriosis and for Early Onset Bipolar Disorder. If people ask me why I haven't done this or that, or visited here or there, it's an effort not to lecture them on the reality of living with Endo and BP in the family. But I do make them aware that I have both in my life and if you look carefully in my writing you will see that they are there too.
I have a BA in French, Spanish and Business Administration from the Queen's University, Belfast; a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Accounting from the University of Ulster; a Graduate Diploma in TEFL from Queen's; and a Master of Philosophy in Publishing Studies from Stirling University in Scotland. I also have certificates in Feature Writing, Business Writing, HTML4 and Cascading Stylesheets. My latest course was in Crime and Mystery Fiction.
